The 20th anniversary Autism Speaks gala is getting a boost from a car wash company that epitomizes the group’s goals and objectives.

In 2011, John D’Eri came up with the novel idea of buying a car wash to employ his son, Andrew, and others like him who struggled to find their place in world while diagnosed with autism.

Working with his other son, Thomas, Jon developed Rising Tide Car Wash, which employs an innovative model that intentionally designs the work environment in a way that empowers individuals with autism to thrive and produce extraordinary results.

  • ZIPS Car Wash shuts down pair of Wisconsin sites: ZIPS Car Wash has already started to shutter some locations following its Chapter 11 bankruptcy filing last week. Two sites in Wisconsin – in the cities of Manitowoc and Fond du Lac – have recently shut down without warning. ZIPS confirmed the closings saying it was a “difficult decision” although it did not say the closings were tied to the bankruptcy directly. Customers with memberships who frequented those locations were encouraged to call (920) 789-2924 for more information. Read more here.

  • Tucson-Arizona based Mister Car Wash recently purchased a 23,550-square-foot retail property in Tucson from Oracle Partners for approximately $3.2 million. Mister Car Wash plans to start redevelopment of the building this quarter. It was formerly occupied by BevMo, an alcoholic beverage retail chain. automated car wash, gas station and convenience store. 

  • The planning board of North Smithfield, Rhode Island, recently approved a unified development review with stipulations for a new project that includes an automated car wash, gas station and convenience store with drive thru. The approval was contingent on the granting of a special use permit for the gas station/car wash in the Watershed Protection Overlay Zone. The developer, Canton East Holdings LLC, has cleared all regulatory hurdles for the project.

  • Express Wash Concepts recently announced the grand opening of a fourth Detroit metro Clean Express Auto Wash site located at 28740 Mound Road in Warren, Michigan. EWC currently operates 105 express wash locations across Detroit, Toledo, Cleveland, Dayton, Columbus, Hampton Roads and Pittsburgh. An additional 30 EWC locations are scheduled to begin construction or open through 2025, including eight across Detroit.

  • Matthews Real Estate Investment Services recently completed a portfolio sale in San Antonio, Texas, which includes two self-serve car washes sites operating as Crystal Clean Car Wash and a 34,000-square-foot self-storage asset. The buyer plans to continue operating the car wash and self-storage properties for the foreseeable future.

  • ModWash recently celebrated the grand opening of its newest location in Toms River, N.J. The location offers seasonal tunnel scents, ModMat cleaners, vacuums, air guns, microfiber ModTowels, glass cleaner, and bug prep stations. Founded in 2020, ModWash has more than 120 locations across 12 states.

  • Popular York shop wants to add car wash, extend café: Dean’s Garden Centre, a popular garden center in York, England, that also houses a café and coffee shop, is looking to expand, including the addition of a car wash. The formerly family-run business was sold to Bradford-based Yorkshire Garden Centres less than a year ago. In its application, the Yorkshire Garden Centre Group says Dean’s plans a new covered café extension, more parking spaces and a car wash and valet services. Read more here.
