Federal judge orders Autobell data breach lawsuits consolidated

A pair of data pair breach lawsuits against Autobell Car Wash LLC arising over a data breach last year have been consolidated into one class action suit.

In an order filed on Dec. 31 in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of North Carolina, Judge Max Cogburn Jr. granted plaintiffs’ motion to consolidate the class actions.

The original cases were Pauken v. Autobell Car Wash, LLC, No. 3:24-cv-00959 (W.D.N.C.), and Joe v. Autobell Car Wash, LLC, No. 3:24-cv-01067 (W.D.N.C.).

  • Virginia company appeals local Pennsylvania car wash restrictions: A Virginia car wash company has filed an appeal to rescind a local ordinance adopted last year in a Pennsylvania township that prohibited it from building a car wash on property it owns. Flagship Pennsylvania Propco, a car wash company based in Virginia, is appealing the enactment of an ordinance adopted by the Whitpain Township (Pa.) Board of Supervisors in August 2024. The ordinance amended the township’s code to provide “specific definitions, standards and criteria for a drive-through vehicle care facility as a special exception.” Read more here.

  • Despite the addition of multiple warnings signs to help prevent backed up traffic entering the Wash-Rite Car Wash in Wintersville, Ohio, the site continues to be plagued by cars stopped and lined up on the main road. In addition to the signs, the site has also had an employee stationed at the entrance to direct traffic. Local police have the option to issue a $100 to $250 fine for stopping on the main road, which may be the next option.

  • The Escanaba (Michigan) City Council recently approved a rezoning of a site along North 30th Street to a light manufacturing district. The move is expected to open the door to the construction of a car and truck wash once the necessary permits are approved by the state. Previously, the land was a combination of heavy manufacturing and commercial districts.

  • Mobile car wash donated in Zambia: Muvombo Development Initiative, together with the Friends of Hakainde Hichilema, improve people’s livelihood in different communities of Zambia. Through a partnership with local small and medium enterprises, they recently donated a full set car washing machine to a youth organization of Lusaka. MDI Directors encouraged the youths who received the car washing machine to utilize the opportunity given to them and grow it. MDI’s vision is to supplement government efforts by empowering people.
