  • Is there a new type of car wash on the horizon? It was bound to happen at some point - but SBX Cars had the opportunity to test out the first drone car wash. Using special technology, the autonomous flying drone can soap up vehicles from several feet in the air, navigating around a vehicle in a 360-degree fashion. Swapping out wands, the drone can also rinse cars off as well. Could this be the next advancement in car wash systems? It may not be far-fetched. In 2019, BMW filed a patent application for a car washing drone system. Read more here.

  • In celebration of National Car Wash Weekend, Super Star Car Wash has a special promotion running at its Arizona locations. On Saturday and Sunday (March 29-30) from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m., visitors can receive a scratch and win card and everyone is a winner. Super Star is giving away more than 35,000 prizes and discounts, including Disneyland trips, tickets to Arizona Diamondback baseball games, various gift cards and free car washes.

  • One of the Crater Car Wash locations in Medford, Oregon, recently suffered a partial roof collapse, with heavy rain considered the initial probable contributor. The Medford Fire Department responded to the scene and continues to investigate the cause of the collapse. The car wash was unoccupied at the time of the collapse, and no injuries have been reported. Crater Car Wash has four locations, including two in Medford.

  • Atlanta-based engineering firm Foresite Group recently submitted plans to Orange County (Florida) officials for a Sud Stop Car Wash at 9065 Curry Ford Road. The request for the 3,833-square-foot facility was made on behalf of Orlando Curry Ford Retail Investment LLC, an entity tied to WRS Inc. Real Estate Investments in South Carolina. Sud Stop currently has 11 locations across Florida, Alabama, Georgia and South Carolina.

  • Splash Car Wash, based in Milford, Connecticut, recently announced the opening of its 67th location in Hamburg, New York. The new wash, outfitted with a 130-foot conveyor and 24 free self-service vacuums, is Splash’s 42nd in New York. The Hamburg location was completed under the direction of Dave Clements and Jeff Arnold, two of Splash’s development partners. They are also managing the construction of a new site in Fayetteville, New York, which is expected to open in the late spring.

  • Ipswich car wash fined £80,000 for employing illegal workers: Vilson Car Wash, listed as Nela En Ltd, in Ipswich, a town in Suffolk, England, has been fined £80,000 by the Home Office for employing illegal workers. The car wash, along with a Chinese restaurant in Bury St. Edmunds, were listed in the government’s quarterly round-up of companies issued penalties for the use of illegal workers. Seven businesses across Norfolk and Suffolk were caught in the previous period of April 1 to June 30 last year, owing between £10,000 and £180,000 each. Read more here.
