• How to make ‘sound’ decisions at a car wash: Canada’s Convenience Store News recently had an interesting article looking at the importance for car wash operators to keep tabs on the noise levels at their sites, both for the comfort of their staff and customers. Dryers as well as vacuums can be among the loudest machines in the car wash, with some equipment running close to 90db. This situation came be combatted with systems that utilize remote placement of motors and fans to keep sound levels down. Sound reducing coating technology offers another way to keep wash sounds inside the structure. Read more here.

• Flagstop Car Wash has partnered with the Southern Virginia Chamber of Commerce and the Southern Virginia Community Bridge Foundation to raise money for the Future Scholars Fund, which provides scholarships to high school graduates heading to college. Fifty percent of the profits from car washes purchased through this link go directly to the fund. Flagstop, founded in 1981, has nearly 25 sites, all in Virginia.

• One customer at Bethel Car Wash in Danbury, Connecticut, recently came away with a bonus – a five-figure winning lottery ticket. A recent visitor to the car wash purchased a 10X Cash 17^th Edition scratch-off ticket and won a $10,000 prize. According to lottery officials, the 10X Cash game is one of the most successful multiplier-style tickets in the Connecticut Lottery’s lineup and the latest version has produced numerous winning tickets across the state.

• Tsunami Express Car Wash in Loves Park, Illinois, is set to open today (April 23) and will offer nearly two weeks of free car washes (through May 4). The automated tunnel wash was built on the former home of St. Chad’s Episcopal Church. The site is also offering its unlimited monthly membership for $5 for the first month during the first two weeks. Proceeds from those sales will be donated to Special Spaces Illinois, a nonprofit company that provides bedroom makeovers for children with cancer.

• “Illegal” car wash shut down in Cagliari, Italy, by Coast Guard: A car wash in the metropolitan city of Cagliari was seized recently by the Coast Guard as part of its “Oro Blue” operation, which includes combatting environmental crimes related to water discharges. During an inspection of the area, the Cagliari Coast Guard found the lack of the necessary authorization for the discharge required by the Environmental Code. During the “Oro Blue” operation, 2,668 checks were carried out in the jurisdiction of the Maritime Directorate of Central and Southern Sardinia, of which 236 were on water discharges (only 6 percent of those were found to be without authorization).
