• Mammoth Holdings names new president/COO: Mammoth Holdings LLC, ranked among the Top 10 Car Wash Companies in the U.S. by Car Wash Advisory, has announced a significant leadership update. Terry Emerson, a seasoned executive with over 20 years of experience in the automotive and retail sectors, has been appointed as the company’s President and Chief Operating Officer (COO). Before joining Mammoth Holdings, Emerson served as Senior Vice President at Express Oil Change and Tire Engineers. Read more here.

• California fines 19 LA-area car washes: The California Labor Commissioner’s Office issued $1.3 million in fines this month for wage theft restitution and civil penalties against 19 car washes in the South Bay area of Los Angeles County and in Orange County. The LCO found the car washes engaged in illegal business practices affecting 960 workers. Following the receipt of citations by the Redondo (Calif.) Car Wash and its affiliated Rock n’ Roll Car Wash in Hermosa Beach, Calif., dozens of workers from both companies have been protesting outside the respective facilities. Read more here and here.

  Express Hits  🎯 

• Tidal Wave Auto Spa announced the opening of two new locations earlier this month, one in Fairfield Township, Ohio, and another in Princeton, West Virginia. Fairfield Township is Tidal Wave’s first express car wash in Ohio, expanding the company’s footprint to 30 states across the U.S.

• Express Wash Concepts, among the Top 15 largest car wash companies as ranked by Car Wash Advisory (Top 100 Car Wash Companies | Car Wash Advisory), announced the grand opening of a third Clean Express Auto Wash in Waterford Township, Michigan. The company’s first Detroit location opened in March, and it currently operates 101 express wash locations across Detroit, Toledo, Cleveland, Dayton, Columbus, Hampton Roads, Va., and Pittsburgh. 

• Links Car Wash recently acquired Blue Penguin Car Wash, located in Largo, Florida. This marks the company’s seventh location and highlights Links Car Wash’s broadening expansion across the Southeast. The location will see upgrades focused on enhancing the customer experience, including improved wash systems and advanced technology. It also recently held grand openings at locations in Orlando, Fla., and in Charlotte, N.C.

• Car washes become “moving offices” in Nairobi: In the East African nation the ownership of a car has become the mark of status. “You can have all the money, all the houses, but if you don’t have a car, you haven’t made it,” said urban sociologist Beneah Mutsotso from the University of Nairobi. As more cars began to clog Nairobi’s streets, car washes followed suit. And with them came more enticing ways of social interaction - including cocktails, entertainment and even for some remote working. Read more here.

• Women in Car Wash Conference: The 11^th bi-annual Women in Carwash Conference is scheduled for Jan. 19-21, 2025, at the Mills House Charleston in Charleston, S.C. The three-day event includes presentations, hands-on workshops, discussion groups, open forums, networking opportunities, and entertaining experiences. More info here.

• Southwest Car Wash Association: The organization will hold its annual convention and expo Feb. 26-28, 2025, at the Fort Worth (Texas) Convention Center. The event will include education sessions and an expo with over 120,000 square feet of the latest car wash, detail and lube supplies, equipment and services. More info here.
