• Homicide victim’s family targets car wash in lawsuit: The family of a man killed at a car wash in Hollister, California, has filed a civil suit against the owners of the company claiming they are partially responsible. Earlier this year, Efrain Amezcua, 48, was shot and killed by Jose Angel Valdez following an altercation at the Hillcrest Car & RV Wash. Valdez was arrested later that day. The family of Amezcua filed the civil suit on Dec. 16, the same day Valdez was bound over for trial during a preliminary hearing. The lawsuit, filed by Amezcua’s widow, accuses the car wash owners of premises liability, wrongful death and negligence. Read more here.

• Spreading holiday cheer: For the fifth year in a row, Bubble Bath Car Wash in San Antonio, Texas, collected and delivered Christmas Cards, looking to spread joy to recipients of Meals on Wheels. More than 4,000 cards were collected from staff at a card decorating party at the company's headquarters, as well as from customers at various Bubble Bath locations across the city. Read more here.

  Express Hits  🎯 

• Fast Lane Car Wash will open in the summer of next year, becoming the third car wash in the area around Argyle, Texas. The Town Council first approved it in fall 2022, but a new flood plain study prompted the developer to want to make it bigger and the larger facility was approved in April 2023.

• Three months after the Edinburg (Texas) City Council issued proximity and water use restrictions on commercial car washes, the council – by a unanimous vote – approved an exception to the new rules. The change will allow Quick Quack Car Wash to build a commercial car wash less than two miles from its nearest car wash competitor. Construction on the site should be completed by 2027.

• Andover Properties announced the acquisition of three car washes in the state of Florida which will be rebranded under its Squeeky’s Car Wash brand. The sites are in Palm Springs, Plant City and Orlando. Andover plans improvements at each location.

• Kärcher International wins sustainability award: Kärcher International, a family-owned global leader in cleaning technology, has been awarded the German Sustainability Award for 2025. The jury honored the company as a “pioneer and role model in the German economy” and selected its sustainable solutions as the winner twice in the two award categories “Household Appliances” and “Mechanical Engineering.” This is the second time that the cleaning specialist from Winnenden has received the award.
