Car vacuum sites (along with air hoses) were a popular destination for car owners even before they became an added amenity at most car wash locations.

For those who like to keep their car clean, the quickest place you can notice things get dirty is inside your vehicle – like floor mats, carpet, seats and even the trunk.

Few of us own a vacuum with power and design needed to do good cleaning in the tight places of a car, so many turn to the local gas station or plan a stop at a vacuum station post-wash.

But do they do the job?

Operationally, yes. But what’s left behind by the previous customer when you show up to work on your car could come as a shock.

  • Car wash construction prompts complaints in shopping center: The construction of a new Mister Car Wash location in a shopping center in Tucson, Arizona, has raised the ire of some fellow tenants and their customers. The biggest issue appears to be a lack of parking, with construction workers taking up a large amount of the available spaces each day. A statement from the car wash said in part, “Our team has an open dialogue with the neighboring property manager to address issues brought to our attention. We are committed to working closely with local businesses to minimize disruptions and create a smooth transition as we bring this new location to life over the coming weeks.” Read more here.

  • Another car wash produces a Powerball winner. If you bought a Powerball ticket at Don’s Car Wash in Fargo, North Dakota, you better check it. The ticket sold at the 52nd Avenue South Fargo location is worth $150,000. It matched four white balls and the Powerball. The prize was $50,000 but since the ticket buyer also purchased the multiplier, the prize tripled. Don’s Car Wash will receive a $2,000 bonus for selling the winning Powerball ticket. The holder must claim their prize at the North Dakota Lottery office within 180 days of the draw.

  • The Brecksville (Ohio) Planning Commission granted final approval on Feb. 6 for a new truenorth Shell gas station, convenience store and car wash on Miller Road. True North Energy will tear down an existing, vacant building – the former home of CrossCountry Mortgage. The new truenorth Shell will consist of eight gas dispensers under a canopy, a 5,400-square-foot store and a 135-foot-long tunnel car wash.

  • A car wash at a Shell gas station in Rancho Cordova, California, recently caught fire, according to the Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District said. Fire crews were able to protect the gas pumps, but the fire damaged the nearby mini mart. No injuries were reported, and the cause of the fire remains under investigation.

  • United Kingdom-wide migrant crackdown hits car washes, restaurants: Nearly 4,000 migrants working illegally in nail bars, car washes and restaurants have been arrested in a UK-wide crackdown to tighten border security. Businesses and homes across London and the South East were among those raided by the Home Office and National Crime Agency. Video footage shows at least four suspects being detained at a car wash in Herne Hill. A spokesman said as part of government efforts since taking power in July, some 3,930 arrests have been made across 5,424 visits by immigration enforcement officer. Read more here.
